The purpose of the Urban Teacher Recruitment Grant Program (“Grant Program”) is to support the outreach and recruitment efforts of high needs schools with demonstrated financial hardship due to COVID-19.

Selected is dedicated to connecting schools with the most relevant, committed, and diverse teachers. Our teacher outreach and hiring platform matches schools with a pre-vetted, qualified, and diverse pool of Pre-K to 12 teachers in urban metro areas throughout the Northeast US, California, Arizona, and Texas.

We have helped schools reduce their cost per teacher hire to as low as $300 by simplifying teacher outreach so schools can run an efficient selection process, and have continued to raise the bar on candidate diversity (e.g., 45% are people of color) and quality (e.g., 90% are certified).

ELIGIBILITY

Is my school, network, or district eligible?

  • Be a PK-12 school with school-level hiring functions* - OR network/district of 10 or fewer schools - in at least one of the metros where Selected operates
  • Serve a significant percentage of students from high needs or low income families
  • Demonstrate significant financial hardship or adverse impact to recruitment and sourcing function by COVID-19
  • Demonstrate proficiency in recruitment and selection
  • Share data related to historical hiring results and resource spend
  • Commit to sharing hiring data and results during the course of the grant, if awarded
  • Be in operation for at least one full academic year
  • Cannot be a for-profit entity, or by owned by a for-profit entity
  • Complete online application by deadline
  • * What are school-level hiring functions? Having the hiring autonomy, authority, and budget at the school level to be able to source and hire teachers.

Semi-finalists will be reviewed in a second round consisting of a short phone call and Q&A.

If additional information is needed, you will be notified no later than July 10, 2020. Final deadline applicants will be notified of the results of the application review on or about July 17, 2020. Early decision applicants will hear by June 30.

* What does "early decision" mean? The benefit of applying early is being able to learn about your application outcome no later than June 30.

FAQ

  • Are there any additional, hidden, or required fees for grantees?
  • No. There are no hidden fees, no additional hiring fees, no purchase required, and no matching fund requirement. Credits can be used to cover all costs associated with usage of the platform (namely, the cost of the invites to connect with candidates). Once all credits are used, grantees have the option, but are not required, to pay for additional invites if they'd like to continue using Selected.
